ABSTRACT

We recorded the CNVs from 12 patients with Substance Use Disorder under a sequence of 5 recording conditions including the conventional CNV paradigms with and without motor response. The patients were divided into two groups according to their family history. The patients with alcoholic fathers (FHP) were more depressive and hypersensitive at the CNV recording day than those without alcoholic fathers (FHN). The reaction time under the two response conditions was significantly shorter for the FHP patients than that for the FHN group. The CNV magnitude reduced under the second response condition for the FHP group. These findings suggest that the substance use patients with alcoholic fathers may reduce arousal level through repetition of a simple task to bring on depression in emotion and then motivation. We speculate that an arousal reduction with behavioral automatization may be influenced by some genetic factors.
