ABSTRACT

It is no accident that psychedelic drug use is commonly referred to as “tripping.” Psychedelic experience is inherently dissociative, a journey to psychic places unknown. Some trips are terrifying, others ecstatic, but many of them offer unique opportunities for therapeutic exploration and growth. In this chapter, I will relate two “travelogues” of people who used psilocybin mushrooms. One trip was frightening and unpleasant, the other joyful. But both became an integral part of therapy and had an important influence on the experiencers’ lives.
