ABSTRACT
Over the years, I have observed, heard about, and read many events described as “dissociative.” In this chapter, I discuss several of these incidents and present a model that I believe helps to describe and compare them, even though they took place in many different times and places. These events and their description set a tone for the book as they portray the many ways in which images and selves can be broken and, in some instances, reconstructed.
