ABSTRACT
In this paper we discuss an operational strategy that can be used to establish a more general approach than has previously been taken to understanding functional organization and its development. We propose that computer-aided measurement and statistical evaluation of brain electrical activity may facilitate integration of emerging facts in the behavioral sciences and the neurosciences about mental processes involving sensation, perception, learning, and cognition throughout the life span.
