ABSTRACT
Uncertainty is an inescapable characteristic of man’s environment. “One thing at least is certain—this life flies. One thing is certain, and the rest is lies.” 1 That may be overstating the case a little; yet there are many aspects of our knowledge that are imprecise, many propositions, the truth of which we cannot indicate with certainty.
