ABSTRACT

Charles C. Spiker has been a major influence in the development of behavioral science for the past thirty years. His theory-based research, in its precision of design, is one evidence. Furthermore, the excellent work of Spiker's numerous students, associates, and those stimulated by Spiker's ideas, clearly indicates his remarkable impact on experimental psychology. The most important sources of information for assessing Spiker's contributions and impact are the opinions of his former students and peers regarding the quality of his work and his influence on the development of their careers. Accordingly, in delineating the Spiker influence, I shall rely heavily on perspectives provided me by former students and associates in numerous conversations and letters. Some came to me many years ago; others came in recent years.
