ABSTRACT
Clearly there are important differences among various types of knowledge structures, but I consider knowledge of common activities to be the paradigmatic case. Representations of common activities are particularly amenable to observation and provide important insight into the functional design of knowledge structures in general. We seek to identify those features of knowledge of common activities that are useful to the efficient functioning of the comprehensive system.
