ABSTRACT

I have always construed the relationship between teaching, practice, and research in group work to be a series of overlapping, interlocking circles of equal size held together by a central core circle of training. The role of teaching is to supply theory and techniques in a manner that incorporates, integrates, and connects the arenas of research and practice. Training as the core connecting construct generates the overall relevance of all three areas whether in the form of graduate training for the group counselor or continuing education training for the group practitioner. The actual manifestation of this model, however, is difficult to find in reality.
