ABSTRACT

Student affairs administration, like any complex societal and human endeavor, is a confluence of people and context. Whether the merge is happy or not at any given college or university depends mightily upon such disparate components as geography, reputation, mission, history, and resources—the things that make campuses unique. Also crucial on any campus are the procedures and policies surrounding the interactions of the people who compose the organization and its structure. Taken together, we can think of these as staffing practices and this chapter is concerned with such systems in the area of student affairs.
