ABSTRACT

Although most people are involved simultaneously in many close relationship, the romantic/sexual relationship is often selected, especially among young adults, as the closest relationship (Berscheid, Snyder, & Omoto, 1989) and the relationship in which the greatest attachment is experienced (Doherty & Feeney, 2004). Furthermore, those who are not currently involved in a sexual/romantic relationship often wish they were, and spend time actively searching for a mate (e.g., Frazier, Arikian, Benson, Losoff, & Maurer, 1996) or exploring the possibility of transforming a friendship into a romantic relationship (Kaplan & Keys, 1997).
