ABSTRACT

A ttachment theory (Bowlby, 1969, 1973, 1980) is one of the most comprehensive theories of personality and social development in the history of psychology. Bowlby's keen observations and deep insights into the psychological and emotional ties that bind individuals together, combined with his expansive theoretical vision to merge core principles from different disciplines—ranging from ethology, to evolutionary biology, to psychiatry, to control systems theory, to cognitive psychology—was a remarkable intellectual feat.
