ABSTRACT

In recent years, professionals' attitudes toward the mentally ill and their families have begun to change. As families are more vocal about their struggles, the need for increasing family support and understanding is becoming evident. As a result there has been increasing interest and commitment to training mental health professionals to work suppor-tively with families (Cole & Cole, 1987; Cutler, Bloom & Shore, 1981; Faulkner, et al. 1989; Group for Advancement of Psychiatry, 1993; Lefley, 1988; Lefley & Johnson, 1990; National Institute of Mental Health, 1990; Weintraub, et al., 1984).
