ABSTRACT

I cradled him close and rocked him, singing to him as if he were a small child, singing inside my fear as well as his, singing sweetness to the sour of his breath, singing softness to the sores on his body, singing love and life into his whole being, and willing, with all my heart, with all my mind and with all my strength that I would keep him safe from harm. But deep inside I already knew that I had failed.
