ABSTRACT
The chief component of any crime, namely the victim, has been largely ignored in many areas of criminology and crime psychology. However, there is a growing concern with the people who suffer crime, an area of study that has come to be known as ‘victimology’. This chapter will focus on the victim, their characteristics and how victimization occurs.
