ABSTRACT
The essays in this volume constitute a rich collection of papers about the interaction of democracy and knowledge. Given the richness and diversity of views expressed, it is next to impossible to integrate them into a single perspective. As a result, this introduction is essentially an effort to emphasize several important issues about the dynamics of democracy and the production of knowledge which receive either minimal or no attention in the following essays.
