According to one of his former students, John Finley Scott (1997), Kingsley was a grand-nephew of Jefferson Davis, the president of the Confederate States of America. Kingsley Davis attended the University of Texas at Austin, graduating with an A.B. degree in English in 1930. While at the University of Texas, he joined the Scribblers Club and edited two of the campus literary magazines. This chapter summarizes the content of the autobiography as presented in a term paper. Kingsley Davis Archives Box 5 (KDA5) contains pieces of fiction written by Kingsley Davis, probably as a University of Texas undergraduate. KDA5 also contains a document entitled "Absolute Imperatives." It should be noted that Kingsley Davis's first published scholarly article resulted from work jointly performed with Professor Joseph K. Johnson at the University of Texas. The article entitled, "An Attempt to Discover Change in Moral Attitudes of High-School Students," was published in The International Journal of Ethics, Vol. XLIV, No. 2, January 1934.
