ABSTRACT
All the Armenians of Urfa did finally realize that appeasement and peaceful compliance had brought only increased oppression and gradual elimination of leaders and young men, as well as dwindling of resources. The Armenian soldiers, using their shovels, started to defend themselves. Several of them wrested guns from Turkish soldiers and were able to shoot their way out to the nearby hills. The next Turkish aggression against the Armenian community, whatever or whenever it might be, was going to be resisted on the spot. The Armenian youth rallied to the bold, remarkable leader who had become their idol. The government has definitely decided to get rid of all the Armenians. Mgrdich Yotneghparian had vowed not to allow the Armenians of Urfa to be driven into exile. Shortly after the boundary change, all the prominent Turks in the city were called to a meeting in the inner chambers of the mayor.
