ABSTRACT

The Asian-Indian population of the United States has grown from 70,000 in 1970 to 387,000 in 1980. California is a major destination for Asian-Indian immigrants. These immigrants follow a broad range of occupations (see appendices 7.1 and 7.2), but many run small businesses. According to the Southern California Associations of Governments, the Los Angeles area has the greatest concentration of small businesses in the United States, and Asian immigrants, Indians among them, have contributed heavily to that record.
