Self-Affirmation or Self-Destruction: The Image of Puerto Ricans in Children’s Literature Written in English

In setting the stage for the discussion of Puerto Rican children’s literature, one is immediately faced with two central questions. What is the image of the Puerto Rican in children’s literature? And, how can we define Puerto Rican literature for children? Each of these issues will be analyzed within the larger questions of self-affirmation and self-destruction vis-à-vis children’s literature.
