ABSTRACT

The concept of organismic involvement in role enactment is, for the present, organized around such global conceptions. That such involvement can be monitored by appropriate psychophysiological and physiological techniques has been amply demonstrated. The hypotheses are stated in such a way, however, that the reader may safely conclude that the intent is to demonstrate that the altered physiological process is a function of a hypnotic trance brought about by the hypnotic induction. T. X. Barber reviewed and criticized a number of reports on the hypnotic cure of asthma and other respiratory ailments. Few endocrine functions have been studied in relation to hypnosis other than via indirect manifestations through such processes as digestion, circulation, or respiratory alterations.
