ABSTRACT
Language as a means of preserving culture is the history of every society. The history of organized language consciousness, language loyalty, and language maintenance is also the history of the formation of the large nation-states. Assimilation of successive generations of immigrants into American society has also meant assimilation into speaking the English language.
