ABSTRACT

Bruce Jackson’s The Story Is True (Temple University Press) is an un-pedantic investigation of the uses of narrative. Never over-explaining, Jackson lets his perceptions flow in and out of his tales (like a post-modern Leskov). While readers of Jackson’s book don’t have to choose between teller and tale, it’s no picnic picking the best story in The Story Is True. There are good ones in this excerpt but—trust your editor—there’s plenty more where they came from.
