ABSTRACT

This chapter examines factors such as a sense of community and collectivism that can help to create a more cooperative workplace. It presents a key indicator of the cooperative workplace, organizational citizenship behaviour. The chapter provides possible contributors to cooperation in the form of a psychological sense of community at work and the individual difference variable individualism–collectivism. It discusses the research methodology, the results of the study, and the implications of the findings and suggestions for future research. The chapter presents a research on a cooperative workplace in the concept of organizational citizenship behavior. Citizenship behavior requires the enactor to refrain from behaviors that may help a coworker but hurt the organization. The chapter deals with the concepts of community and collectivism. Individualism–collectivism (IC) is a variable of interest that may be potentially related to a sense of community and organization citizenship behavior.
