ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses how religious individuals from Christianity, Islam, and Judaism may exhibit citizenship behavior and whistle-blowing in organizational context. The importance of organizational citizenship behaviour (OCB) has been clearly illustrated by scholars in the field of organizational behavior. The chapter argues that people who follow the tenets of their religion, exhibit specific organizationally acceptable behaviors, such as obedience to authority, limited antisocial behavior, and exhibit high extra-role behaviors. It explains how religiosity may be associated with work-related behaviors. Spirituality is more focused on inner-self and on control and direction from within to a higher degree than religion. The chapter discusses the importance of religion and religiosity in the context of employee behavior that could have certain implications for managers at individual, group, and organizational level. Managers can benefit by better understanding the usefulness and impact of religiosity on their employees.
