ABSTRACT

For example, political sociology was mute about the pre-WWII rise of right-wing totalitarianism in Germany, Italy, and Japan. It also missed foreseeing the establishment of notable left-wing Communist dictatorships in Russia, China, Korea, Cuba, among other places, before and after WWII. Closer to our own day, political sociology missed the eventual downfall of Communism in Europe near the end of the twentieth century, and there has been no major article on terrorism in either the American Journal of Sociology or the American Sociological Review since 1989.
