ABSTRACT

The internet or World Wide Web (WWW) is a resource for information on new religious movements (NRMs) and the anti-cult movement that is growing rapidly and constantly changing. The World Wide Web (WWW) is like a large library. On the internet the devices are called "search engines" and they are essential to finding anything on the WWW, as this "library" is growing at an estimated 20% every month and the sheer volume of information available is mind-boggling. There are numerous free and effective search engines available on the net. The chapter highlights three of them: Yahoo, Infoseek Net Search, and Lycos Inc. It provides a limited annotated bibliography of typical sites dealing with NRMs available on the WWW. The chapter presents three groupings: general information sites about NRMs or links to data on many different organizations; web pages operated by explicitly anti-cult organizations; and pages set in place by various sources dealing with aspects of specific NRMs.
