ABSTRACT

Italcementi is a well-known family business in Northern Italy, with a long story in the cement industry and has now reached the fifth generation; it is well recognized for having strongly invested in building social capital and leveraged on this to create socially innovative corporate initiatives. This case study provides an insightful example of an entrepreneurial family controlling a profit-oriented enterprise, with a strong social attention, especially towards the environment and the community, which, instead of conflicting, is found to sustain the global operations of the business itself.
