ABSTRACT

During the Presidential State of the Union Address in August 2010, Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono mentioned that Indonesia is currently enduring the second wave of reform era (“Reformasi” in Bahasa Indonesia). He referred this second wave of reform to the era after the general election of 2009 in which he received the second mandate of presidency. What we should pay attention to is his assertion that this era has two aspects: change and continuity. He continued that the second wave of reform is not about changing the direction of the nation, but about accelerating the changes we have initiated. Central to this assertion is that there is a sense that Indonesia has been moving in the right direction and all this nation has to do is to accelerate the progress.
