ABSTRACT

At the time of writing, there is no statutory provision for art therapists in the education or social services systems. Official opportunities for working with children are quite limited and in some ways analogous to the situation in the National Health Service some years ago (see Chapter 7). There are, in fact, art therapists working in the areas of child guidance, intermediate treatment, family therapy, and special schools. In this chapter I am going to discuss some aspects of working in two further areas — the areas of assessment and observation, and of normal primary schools.
