ABSTRACT

Although recent decades have seen a sizeable number of studies on how nouns and verbs are stored in our brains, we have as yet no clear-cut answer to the question of how exactly they are represented and processed. This chapter provides an overview of this research. In the first section, we focus on how lexical processing has been studied through neuroimaging. In the second section, we consider the theories that have been put forward on this topic. In the third and final section, we argue that it is helpful to study noun and verb processing in patients with Alzheimer’s disease (AD), as their primary language impairment concerns the semantic system.
