ABSTRACT

This chapter provides students with some guidelines and recommendations on how to assess the quality of published quantitative research in the field of sports coaching. It outlines the most important practical issues that researchers typically encounter when engaging in this form of research. The chapter gives some practical tips on how to evaluate quantitative research studies in sports coaching. Consequently, when judging the true effect of a statistical finding one should pay close attention to effect size statistics. Probability sampling is any sampling procedure in which each member of a target population has an equal chance of being chosen. In fact, random sampling will often be employed to avoid selection bias. Issues which may severely compromise the external validity of study findings include an insufficient sample size and inappropriate sampling method, and problems with the instrumentation or measurements used to collect the data.
