ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book critically examines the literature in sports events of various sizes by grouping the research into the various stakeholder groups associated with events. It demonstrates that the 'intensity and aggressive nature of competitive bidding has reached unprecedented levels'. The book discusses the different types of bidding processes and approaches, the reasons for bidding, and critical success factors. It presents an overview of the growing research focusing on the organising committee, namely: its lifecycle/evolution and structure, the work-force and human resource management process, and the various stakeholder relationships. The book describes what an event owner is and the various types of event owners. It focuses on the national sport governing bodies. The book deals with the sponsors, a group that grows in importance as the size of the event increases.
