ABSTRACT

Qualitative research approaches are increasingly being used in the study of communication disorders, as is attested to by the nature of this volume. There have been special issues devoted to the subject in the American Journal of Speech-Language Pathology (Damico & Simmons-Mackie, 2003), Aphasiology (Damico, Simmons-Mackie, Oelschlaeger, Elman, & Armstrong, 1999), and in the Australian journal ACQuiring Knowledge in Speech Language and Hearing (Davidson & McAllister, 2002). Professor Jack Damico has been a pioneer both in carrying out qualitative studies and in inspiring and educating others in the application of such approaches.
