What would an ideal Federal rural land use policy look like?

This chapter reflects on what the essential features of an ideal Federal and state land use policy would look like. It starts by defining what is meant by a good or ideal policy, and ideal land use policy in particular. Next, we enumerate several services provided by rural land. Together, these principles of good policy and the list of services provided by land are used to describe the essential characteristics of ideal Federal and state land use policies.
