ABSTRACT

Sustainable development is the development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs (WCED, 1987). Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) or sustainable entrepreneurship means that entrepreneurs act in accordance with this principle. One of the most striking issues within the scope of CSR is (future) global food production. Challenges to be met in terms of future food production are continuous population growth, the scarcity of land, desertification and deforestation, and growing carbon dioxide production as a result of food production. Because it is the food industry that will have to cope with these problems, sustainable entrepreneurship in this sector is of vital importance. The two crucial entrepreneurial challenges are finding ways to (a) increase food production with minimal environmental load and (b) reduce food waste.
