ABSTRACT

Development education has been a feature of educational practice in most industrialised countries for the past 25 to 30 years. It has sometimes gone under the names of global education or global citizenship, or themes such as the global dimension in education, and more recently, global learning. It may not be a well-known term but is an area of educational practice that has had contradictory influences and strong political and funding support in some countries, alongside a potentially radical and transformative agenda from non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
