ABSTRACT

Argentina is the second largest country in Latin America, with an area of 2,781,000 sq. km. (1,073,700 sq. mi) and a population close to thirty million. Its annual rate of population growth is low, only 1.3 percent, with a decreasing rate in the rural areas of -0.9 percent and an increasing rate in the urban areas of 1.8 percent, the second lowest rate after Uruguay. The rate of population growth for the entire region in 1980 was 2.7 percent, with 3.8 percent growth for the urban population and 0 9 percent growth for the rural population. Rich in natural resources, including oil, Argentina is well developed industrially. Its principal exports, however, are still beef and wheat.
