ABSTRACT

Egypt lies at the crossroads of Africa and Asia in the center of the Arab world. Its area covers 386,000 square miles (1,001,710 square kilometers). Egypt has the longest recorded history of any modern nation, dating back to 3200 B.C. Since early times Egypt has experienced periods of strength, during which it dominated neighboring countries. In periods of relative weakness Egypt has been controlled by Greeks, Romans, Persians, Ottomans, French, and British forces.
