ABSTRACT

The salary for a profesor titular (full professor) in Colombia is certainly enough to afford a middle-class livelihood, but full-time professors are a minority in the country, in which more than 69 percent of the professoriate holds a part-time contract. Between 3 percent and 8 percent of the numbers of the professoriate have a PhD, but a trend to improve faculty’s qualifications is already evident. Data on academic salaries are not regularly collected for either public or private universities. International academic mobility is not a major concern in the country.
