ABSTRACT
This chapter attempts to examine the growth of China as a global economic and political power and the challenges to other countries from China's rise. Over the last 30 years there has already been a significant power shift to the developing world in general and to China in particular. This shift is being accelerated as a result of the 2008/2009 economic crisis. The rapid rise of China raises economic and environmental sustainability challenges to the world.
