ABSTRACT
Educational achievements in India remain wanting after sixty odd years of independence. While the Indian constitution has deemed education to be a fundamental right the reality on the ground is that only 81.1 per cent of youth and 62.8 per cent of adults are deemed to be literate (UNESCO 2008b).
