Before the rest of the book raises its questions about the ways in which objects are perceived, displayed and politically articulated, it is necessary that some time be spent reflecting upon the objects themselves, their diverse natures, the manifold ways in which they come to be formed and the various factors involved in the production of their ‘thinginess’.
