ABSTRACT
This book provides a state-of-the-art introduction to, and analysis of, the development of regionalism in Asia. It offers a comprehensive exploration of what is clearly the most dynamic and arguably the most important region in the world. Significantly, Asian regionalism is still taking shape and many of its key aspects are highly contested. The analyses in this collection take stock of the major political, economic and social trends in Asia, and consider key dimensions on where Asian regionalism stands today. It will also review many of the main issues that are on dispute, and assess where the multiple, and sometimes overlapping, manifestations of Asian regionalism above the level of the state – Asia-Pacific, East Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia and Central Asia to name the main ones – might be heading.
