ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION e purpose of this chapter is to discuss key factors that in uence technology integration for distance and blended learning environments and to examine fundamental issues for research and practice on technology integration. Successful technology integration requires instructors to be mindful about selecting and customizing technologies to maximize student learning; to be collaborative in incorporating multiple perspectives, interdisciplinary approaches, and community inputs; and to promote sustainable practices that can be continuously revised and enacted. We refer to this process as dynamic scaff olding for technology integration. We have broadened the context for technology integration to informal learning environments to address growing interest in and needs for a er-school programs and enrichment activities with emergent technologies (social networking sites and games).
