ABSTRACT
Moss Roberts is a professor of Chinese at New York University. He received his Ph.D. from Columbia University. His publications include Three Kingdoms: China’s Epic Drama (abridged translation with introduction and postface) (1976); Critique of Soviet Economics (translation of Mao Zedong’s Reading Notes) (1977); Chinese Fairy Tales and Fantasies (edited and translated) (1979); Three Kingdoms (complete annotated translation with textual notes and critical essay) (1992, 2004); Historical Overview of the Nanjing Massacre (Chinese only) (1995); “Contra Ideocracy” in Bulletin of Concerned Asian Scholars (1997); “Bad Karma in Asia” in Bulletin of Concerned Asian Scholars (2000); and Laozi, Dao De Jing: The Book of the Way (annotated translation with textual notes and critical introduction) (2001, 2004), in addition to various articles, reviews, and essays in English and Chinese. He was the recipient of the Golden Dozen Teaching Award (1996) and received the National Endowment for the Arts Translation Fellowship (1983–1984) and the National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship (1985–1986).
