‘Neo-Ricardian theory' versus Marxian theory? A note *

The idea that between Ricardo and Marx there is a contrast of theoretical approach, rather than continuity and development, was advanced a few years ago in an article by Robert Rowthorn, ¹ which we shall examine here as representative of a general position, which has perhaps been argued there more accurately than had been often done elsewhere.
