ABSTRACT

Coalition forces against another Iranian enemy, the Taliban, seems likely to enhance Iran’s position in the region further.

The stability of the Islamic regime was tested in the immediate aftermath of the disputed presidential election in June 2009. Tens of thousands took to the streets of Tehran to protest against the re-election of President Ahmadinejad, claiming the result to be fraudulent. At the time of writing, the regime appears to have successfully re-established control and extinguished dissent.
