ABSTRACT

Mauritania is located at the interface between the Arab world and Africa. To the north are Western Sahara, Morocco and Algeria and to the east and south Mali and Senegal. It is the sixth largest state in the Middle East, slightly larger than Egypt. Apart from Oman, Kuwait, Qatar, Cyprus, Bahrain and Western Sahara, it has the smallest population. As a result, it has by far the lowest density of population in any Middle Eastern country.
