ABSTRACT

Cultural enquiry may be contrasted with the rational choice framework, which is uncontested in terms of methodology, although this does not imply that the rational choice approach is somehow superior or more useful than cultural analysis. One key issue in the social sciences concerns itself with how to appreciate the pros and cons of both approaches in the study of human beings and their social systems. Culture is a vast field of study in the social sciences, anthropology and history. As yet, only the political aspects of culture have been dealt with. Research into culture and politics presents certain challenges that are of both a conceptual and a methodological nature.
