ABSTRACT

Activism is a term with multiple meanings and interpretations. A common definition of activism is individuals engaged in activities, such as direct action and community organizing, to foster some form of social change. The attempts at social change can range from concerns about the environment, racism, and gay rights to school reform in urban centers. Yet, like the multiplicity of social issues undertaken by people around the world, what is viewed as activism can vary from country to country, context to context, and from one end of the political spectrum to the other.
